New waterfront pocket park connecting community, culture, and nature along Three Mile Creek

Lewis Landing is a waterfront pocket park on Three Mile Creek designed to provide public access for kayaking, fishing, and gathering.

  • (Coming soon) Educational/interpretive signage highlighting cultural and environmental history
  • Sculpture by local artist Frank Ledbetter celebrating community heritage
  • Middle Passage Port Marker site, commemorating the nearby landing where enslaved West Africans brought to the U.S. on the Clotilda were unlawfully disembarked in 1860 and recognizing their later establishment of Africatown.

Lewis Landing offers a place to connect with both nature and the story of Africatown. Paddle the creek, cast a line, or pause to reflect on the history and ecology of the area through thoughtfully designed signage and public art that deepen the experience.

As part of Mobile County’s Parks Initiative, Lewis Landing is being made possible through State and County GOMESA funding, which supports conservation efforts and expands public access to waterfront recreation areas.
